Dr. Peden is a retina and macula specialist who completed his advanced training in 2009. After finishing his fellowship at the University of Florida, he joined the faculty where he most recently served as Division Director of Vitreo-Retinal Disease and Surgery, as well as Fellowship Director. He continues to maintain an adjunct appointment with the University of Florida Department of Ophthalmology, where he volunteers his time lecturing residents and conducting translational research.
Dr. Peden has authored and co-authored more than 15 articles in peer-reviewed journals. While at the University of Florida, he participated in multiple clinical trials and funded research projects, including a pioneering gene therapy trial for the treatment of Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis. His primary research interests include new delivery techniques for retinal and choroidal gene and drug therapies, pharmacologic treatments to prevent proliferative vitreoretinopathy and macular scarring, and the use of computer simulation as a tool for medical education.
Education and Training
Dr. Peden earned his bachelor’s degree with high honors from the University of Florida and completed his medical degree at the University of Florida College of Medicine with academic honors. He was elected as a junior member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and inducted into the Chapman Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. After completing a categorical medicine internship at the University of Florida, he continued his ophthalmology residency and later completed fellowship training in vitreo-retinal surgery and disease at the same institution.
