What is Syfovre and how does it help?

  • Syfovre is a medication administered as an eye injection that has been FDA approved since 2023 for geographic atrophy, the advanced stage of dry age-related macular degeneration.
  • Syfovre targets a part of your immune system called the complement system that is overactive in patients with dry age-related macular degeneration.
  • The overactive complement system plays a role in attacking your healthy retina cells in your macula, slowly killing those cells and reducing central vision.
  • Syfovre specifically blocks the protein C3 in the complement system, slowing down the process of retina cell loss and central vision loss.
  • In clinical trial studies, Syfovre injections given in the eye every 1-2 months slowed down the loss of retina cells (geographic atrophy) by around 20% at 2 years and 30% at 3 years.
Ask your retina doctor about the risks, benefits and alternatives to receiving syfovre injections and if you are a candidate to receive the medication.
